Oplontis
Oplontis
Oplontis is, together with Pompei Herculaneum and Stabiae, one of the sites Mount Vesuvius had covered and preserved in 79 AD. It is an added value to the discoveries made in the other archeological sites thanks to the presence of the so called "otium villae". The Villa of Poppea Sabina is surely the most famous one together with the Villa of Lucio Crasso Tertius .
It is made up of several beautifully frescoed rooms, gardens, viridaria, a 60 meter long swimming pool, remains of pottery, plaster casts of roots of trees...
This maritime, residential villa is a wonderful example of luxury life in Roman times and is worth visiting.
